Columbia River Gorge Elopement

Caitlin was one of the incredible women who attended my Wildbride retreats back in 2016 and recently moved up to Portland, so we were able to hang out (and have some Corgi playdates with her gal, Tumbles, and mine, Dusty) over the summer.  She and Tim always planned on eloping and they found the perfect spot in the middle of the woods near the Columbia River Gorge.  As we drove up the road it suddenly felt like I was on the Avenue of the Giants in the Redwoods, which is decidedly one of my most favorite places on earth.  Caitlin used to work in tech in San Francisco and when they moved to Portland, she quit her job and focused on her passion: sewing and drafting her own clothing!  Yeah, people, she MADE that dress. She designed it and sewed it.  Unreal.

If you're into corgis, unconventional wedding style, and saying vows beneath giant trees, you're gonna like this one.

Oregon Coast Beach Elopement

Oregon Coast Elopement

Talk about 4th of July Wedding Goals.  These two eloped on an Oregon Beach in the most adorable, festive ceremony!  They included a unique, vintage flag, a hand-made altar, cute white mismatched chairs for their few attendees, and a candle-lined mini aisle for the most simple and gorgeous wedding celebration.  I absolutely love a flowy gown on a breezy day, and Nicole's beautiful Catherine Deane gown was the perfect gown for a beachy wedding, and her gorgeous braided floral hairstyle caught the wind beautifully.  These two are the cutest!  Congrats, David + Nicole!  I hope you have endless PNW adventures in your lives together!

Venue: Camp Rilea Beach, Astoria Oregon
Gown: Catherine Deane via BHLDN

matt + lauren's bridal veil falls oregon engagement session

Bridal Veil falls is a pretty perfect name for a place to do engagement photos, right?  This was an extra special shoot for me.  This fella right here?  He's my little bro.  And that's his almost-wife!  We'd been planning on doing a shoot with the two of them for what feels like years, but after he proposed in January, it became the perfect excuse to finally pull the trigger.  They live in the Portland area, so I actually did this shoot on my way down to our very first Wildbride Retreat on the Oregon Coast!  We stopped in Portland for the night to stay with my other brother, Ben, and do some last minute frantic trips to Home Depot for the Brave.  So Matt and Lauren drove over and we hit up Bridal Veil falls.

These crazy cats graduate from college next weekend and last weekend Matt had his film featured in the college film festival where he was nominated for an audio production award.  I watched him pull like four all-nighters (actual all-nighters, not I-stayed-up-till-3-then-went-to-bed) finalizing the audio on the film and I can't even believe how much work goes into every tiny aspect of audio on a film.  But I digress.

They're getting married in June, where I will also be photographing their wedding and doing some floral design for her bouquets!  It's going to be a super fun weekend, I can't wait!

paris inspired downtown tacoma wedding shoot

Tacoma Wedding Photographer, Liz Morrow Studios

I'm super excited to share this Downtown Tacoma, WA Wedding inspiration shoot with you guys!

I love shooting vintage or second hand wedding dresses.  While I adore and drool over so many of the new gowns out there, I also love supporting more affordable options for wedding gowns which can be a huge chunk of change and can drastically reduce your budget for the rest of your big day.  If you can find an incredible gown at a thrift store, damn girl, you're a thrifting goddess.  Etsy and online vintage shops are also great places to find stunning vintage gowns.  I've collaborated with local Tacoma vintage/second-hand shops before, and for this shoot we teamed up with London Couture for the girls' wardrobe and styling.  They brought over an amazing selection of vintage and second hand designer gowns for us to choose from, for both the bridal looks and bridesmaid styling!

Eleanor, Athena, and Najamoniq over at Embellish Salon rocked the hair and makeup (as they always do, seriously, these ladies are the bomb diggity).  And J Robbins Florist knocked it out of the park with her super ethereal, lush floral design!  Ugh, that Dusty Miller!  Perfection!

Have a scroll and let me know what your favorite shots or details are!

vintage eclectic rv wedding inspiration

Vintage RV Elopement, Eclectic Wanderlust Wedding

Brooke, co-owner of one of my favorite Tacoma shops, UrbanXChange, has been building a collection of vintage wedding gowns over the past couple years and we dreamed up this idea for a wanderlust-y, vintage inspired, eclectic styled wedding shoot to showcase her dresses!  I loved the idea of it being colorful, but not in an over-the-top way, cozy, and eclectic with lots of interesting textures and patterns.  One of my favorite ideas was a "Pendleton" wedding cake.  I love the look of cakes that have amazing patterns, but I'd never seen a cake that utilized the sort of Pendleton type patterns, and it went perfectly with the Vintage RV and free-spirited style we were shooting for.

In addition to the photography I also did the florals for the shoot.  I love working with more unconventional florals and the Protea in the bridal bouquet was one of my favorite details.  I also had a ton of fun decking out the front of the Winnebago with a pretty floral swag and handmade fabric tassel strand (from my own wedding!) across her "nose".

In true Pacific Northwest fashion Rainier beer was our cheers-ing beverage of choice, rather than champagne!  (The groom model actually had the beer in his car from a camping trip he'd just returned from, which made it all the more perfect!).

Rainier is a solid go-to cheap beer here in the PNW, but I thought a fun couple like this would also have a delicious signature cocktail for their celebration, so here is "The Brave," a scrumptious cocktail recipe with a lot of visual impact as well!  Figs are so gorgeous!

Signature Cocktail recipe:

"The Brave" Fig, Gin, & Honey Cocktail

(adapted slightly from Savor Home)

Fig Puree

1 cup fresh figs, rinsed & halved

1 tablespoon sugar

2 teaspoons water

Juice of half lemon

Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth. You can make this ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.  Recipe makes enough puree for about 4 cocktails, multiply for larger quantities.

Cocktail recipe

1 1/2 tablespoons fig puree

1 tablespoon honey

2 oz ginger ale

1.5 oz gin

2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Add the fig puree and honey to a cocktail shaker. Stir it together with a spoon until it is well combined. Add ginger beer, gin, and lemon juice and fill with ice. Shake until frosty and strain the mixture into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a halved, skewered fig!

molli + daniel's backyard sequim, wa wedding

Molli + Daniel, Sequim WA backyard wedding, Liz Morrow Studios

This wedding blew my mind in so many ways. Molli is a lifelong family friend and I was thrilled when she asked me to shoot her wedding. Molli's mom, Vicki, is an amazing event planner in Anchorage, AK, our hometown, so teaming up with her to create Molli's perfect day was amazing. The venue was actually my dream wedding venue, but since my husband and I got married in November an outdoor backyard wedding was just not in the cards.  My family, Molli's family, plus dozens of close family friends descended on the house that week to create her gorgeous wedding.

In addition to being their photographer, I got to be florist for the wedding, creating all of Molli's bouquets for her and her bridesmaids, all the groomsmen's boutonnieres, and corsages for the grandmas. I also built the wedding arch, with some help from my dad, made from trees I got from a friends house in Tacoma and from branches around the venue. Vicki's good friend from Ketchikan, AK put together all the floral centerpieces that Vicki had designed, and Scott, Molli's dad, hand built every wooden box for the floral centerpieces.

While the day before and after the wedding were gorgeous, the day-of ended up being crazy stormy, so much so that the huge 20x50ft tent nearly blew away that morning and there were bridesmaids, groomsmen, and friends holding down each leg of the tent while the winds were blustering. My wedding arch blew over and broke, but was salvaged by the dads who put it back up and lashed it down. The storm subsided long enough for us to get some incredible portraits, and while we had a Plan B to do the ceremony under the tent, Molli + Daniel decided to just go for it out in the yard even though the rain started falling 15 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start. Still, I can't imagine a more perfect, homespun yet elegant wedding.

candace + adam's canyon river ranch ellensburg wedding

Liz Morrow Studios | Canyon River Ranch Ellensburg Wedding

Adam, Candace and I weren't able to meet before she decided to book me for their wedding and engagement session, but when I suggested we do the Rattlesnake Ledge hike for their engagement photos and they enthusiastically agreed, I knew I'd love them.  We had such a great time hiking out to the ledge back in May for their engagement shoot and after we parted ways I was so excited for their wedding in August.

They got married on the banks of the Yakima river on a gorgeous summer day and, even with all the people floating the river yelling congratulations during the ceremony and portraits, it was so beautiful and magical.  Their venue was the amazing Canyon River Ranch, nestled in the Yakima River canyon.  Candace's Katie May gown suited her so perfectly.  I'm still so excited that Adam and Candace chose me to document their day, it was such a fun, special, and joyful wedding.  Congrats, you two!

abby + ricky's monte cristo ballroom seattle wedding

Liz Morrow Studios | Monte Cristo Ballroom Wedding, Seattle, WA

Abby and Ricky's wedding at the Monte Cristo Ballroom in Everett, WA was so much fun. The day was planned so well, and the venue was seriously on point, that everything felt super relaxed, nothing was rushed or stressful, and I could tell that everyone was having a wonderful time. They say that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, but in the case of weddings it's more like if you fail to plan, you just spend your wedding day stressed out and anxious. Huge props to the Monte Cristo Ballroom staff, too. I've never seen a venue staff so helpful and on it. The whole wedding party was hydrated and the coordinator kept everything moving along wonderfully. This was my first time shooting at the Monte Cristo Ballroom, but I'd definitely love to go back again!

Abby's Stella York dress was so big and dreamy, her bouquet by Flora D'Amore was stunning, and I loved that the boutonnieres were little succulents! Their ring bearer had the cutest little tiny succulent boutonniere! Too much. The whole day went off without a hitch and it was one of the most joyful, fun weddings I've had the pleasure of being a part of!

abby + ricky's seattle ferry boat engagement shoot

Seattle Ferry Boat Engagement Photos

A couple weekends ago I met up with these two lovebirds up in Seattle for a fun evening ferry ride for their engagement shoot!  We ended up with an absolutely gorgeous day, which made the ride so much fun.  We hopped on the Bainbridge ferry for a round trip ride and on our way over we lucked out and the entire upper car deck was totally empty!  We took full advantage and frolicked around the empty space until the ferry workers kicked us out when we arrived at Bainbridge.  It turned out to be the perfect spot for photos because the top deck was packed with people (because of the beautiful weather) and it was crazy windy up there!  Looking windswept is romantic, but not so much looking like you're in wind tunnel.  Abby and Ricky are getting married this August and I can't wait to shoot their wedding!

I've got a few wedding dates still available this summer for any of you last minute brides, and I'm already booking dates next year, so 2016 brides I'm ready for ya!  Check out my portfolio and get more info on my wedding, engagement, and boudoir packages here!

tropical kihei maui bridal editorial

When I found out we were going to Hawai'i, I got excited about wearing pretty summery dresses and as I was shopping around for some dresses to wear, I happened upon this one.  It was too fancy to be a casual sundress, but I thought it'd look perfect in Hawai'i and got the idea to pull together a fun little faux bridal photoshoot.  I wanted to have some tropical wedding photos in my portfolio because it's be pretty dang rad to travel to a tropical location to shoot a wedding.  Right where I did the shoot there are actually real weddings all the time!  I saw at least three weddings on the beach at the same spot where these shots were taken!  I can't blame people, It's so gorgeous, especially right at sunset.  We spent every sunset down at the beach with a drink in hand and watch the sun dip into the ocean.

I wanted an ethereal and a little bit vintage vibe, but with a tropical twist.  I made the bouquet from $28 worth of flowers from Safeway and masking tape, the crown is one I made this summer and brought with me.

The dress is from ModCloth and I had it altered to fit me just right (and short girls, take note!  I didn't cut any length off, so I think it might be intended as a tea length, but it was the perfect length for my 5'1" frame when I was barefoot).  I knew I'd still have green hair, which didn't fit the look I was going for, so I took my black curly wig, added some curled extensions and it was perfect!  It's funny to think that the last time I was in Hawai'i this is what my  real hair looked like!

The dress is actually a bit of a light tan/nude color, and I loved how it matched the sand and how it glowed when the evening sun filtered through it!  With my black hair matching the volcanic rocks and the dress matching the sand, I unintentionally matched my location pretty well!

Since the trip was kind of our anniversary vacation, it was fun to get all "brided up" again and feel fancy.  I think women should be able to get fancy more often, especially us grown up ladies.  I mean, you have prom or homecoming as a teen and then a wedding, but after that there aren't a ton of opportunities to get super fancy.  And I think sometimes we feel self centered or vain getting dolled up, but I say screw that.  You're allowed to feel pretty and get done up if it makes you feel awesome.  I have a friend in Tacoma  who does amazing boudoir shoots and I love how it makes her clients feel like bombshells.   I think we sometimes need more glamour in our lives, and if your life isn't full of glamour naturally (which is where most of us exist, I imagine), you gotta make your own!

Something that I love about burlesque's influence on my life is that it's made me love wigs even more.  The other night I was going out to a show in Seattle with my burly-gals and I had zero time to make my hair do anything cute, so I just grabbed this wig, gave it a little twist into a side ponytail type thing, slapped on a Swarovski headband and I was ready to go!  The cheap wigs you get at the thrift store for Halloween aren't what you want, though.  Invest in one or two higher quality wigs and you're good to go!  The extensions I put in this one were a lot straighter than the curls of wig, so I just wet them down, put them in perm rods overnight until the hair was totally dry and voilà!  They perfectly matched the curl of the wig.  I'm eventually going back to black for my real hair color, so I think I might grab myself a redhead wig to keep me from wanting to dye my hair again!

ethereal alaskan winter bridal shoot

You guys just saw some of my favorite shots from Emilee and Matt's Alaskan New Year's wedding, but I also put together a super fun styled shoot while I was up in Anchorage, so I could take full advantage of the gorgeous, snowy landscape.  Here are some of my favorites from that shoot!  I partnered with an amazing bridal shop in Anchorage, Fabulous Frocks, which happens to be owned by a gal I went to high school with!  I didn't know it when I emailed her and when I walked into the shop to meet up, I was like, "Whaaat?! Hey!!"  Going home to Anchorage always feels like I'm in such a small town, despite it being the largest city in Alaska.  Anyway,  Tara from Fabulous Frocks set us up with our amazing accessories.  Jewelry, veils, headbands, she blinged us out.

BHLDN provided two incredible gowns and I'm a little over the moon in love with their penelope gown.  I may or may not have tried it on and flounced around in the mirror, because holy gorgeous.

My models are the amazing Corina and Molli.  I'm actually shooting Molli's real wedding in August and it was so much fun to do a "dry run" bridal shoot with her!  Another friend from high school,

Tess Weaver

, did makeup and I love the berry lip and eyeshadow she gave Molli.  Aren't Molli's eyes killer?  For Corina, we went with a brighter look with pink lids and fresh face.

Andrea Moss

was our hair gal and she rocked it out with their loose updos!

Molli rocked a more vintage inspired old-hollywood glam bridal look, and I found a perfect vintage jacket in my mom's closet that happened to be my grandma's old coat!  I had never seen it before!  It actually turned out to be great because, like Matt and Emilee's shoot, temperatures were still hovering around 8ºF for this shoot.  Molli wore the

Francine gown

from BHLDN.

Corina's dress was definitely a bit more frothy and ethereal and I loved how the low sun filtered through the layers of soft tulle.  I think if I got married again I'd definitely have to consider the Penelope gown as an option because it's just so magical.  Floaty and effortlessly pretty!  Definitely a twirl-worthy gown.

I made both the girls' bouquets from flowers at Alaska Wholesale Flower Market, which was really fun.  I'm a little obsessed with big, lush, overflowing bouquets at the moment.  Lots of greenery and texture.  Sometimes I think people forget about using greenery and go for more flowers, but I think greenery is such a great way to add fullness without spending a ton of money on fancy flowers.

We shot on the Hillside in Anchorage, and then drove out the road down to Beluga Point for some more expansive landscape shots and on our way back we had to pull over for the most incredible sunset.  I couldn't believe the pastel colors in the sky as the sun hovered right at the horizon.  There were tons of photographers and tourists snapping away at the same location and we actually got paparazzi'd by the local newspaper and were in the paper the next day!  So funny!

I've been loving doing styled shoots lately, they're so great for inspiration, exploring creativity, and expanding skills.  I'm doing a styled shoot this Saturday with a great local wedding + event planner which I think is going to be a blast!  It's so inspiring to team up with talented local folks and put together something really fun and exciting.

matt + emilee's winter wonderland alaskan wedding

At the beginning of January I flew up to my hometown of Anchorage to shoot Emilee and Matt's snowy winter wedding!  With the daylight hours super short this time of year, they got ready early in the day and we headed out in the afternoon to do their bride + groom portraits.  Their ceremony wasn't until 6pm, but by that time the sun would be down for two hours!  The week before the wedding the weather was so warm and gross that it melted most of the snow, but I scouted around a bit the day before their wedding to find some snow, and all I had to do was drive up the hillside a bit and once I got to a high enough elevation it became a snowy wonderland!  Unfortunately, the temperatures dropped as soon as I got to Anchorage and it was about 8 degrees for our shoot!  I grabbed a cute sweater from  my mom's closet, my own mittens, and Emilee brought a scarf her sister made to keep a bit warm, though after a few minutes of shooting we still needed to run back to the car and blast the heat to thaw out before heading outside for more photos!

This fence photo is one of the last ones we shot, at 2:30pm, and you can see we're catching the last of our light!  I love that Emilee wore snow boots for our shoot.  Since she had a long gown it didn't matter what shoes she wore because we weren't going to see them anyway.  She switched into her heels for the actual wedding, but I loved seeing this peek of boots in this photo.  Another tip for winter brides: wear thermal leggings under your gown!  I use this trick all the time when styling maxi dresses during winter months.  You don't see them and they really don't add any bulk at all, but keep your legs toasty warm!

We took most of these photos on the road where my old horse barn is located and it was so crazy to step out of the car and smell that old familiar scent of horses again!  Although, I don't think I miss bundling up to ride when it's 8 degrees.  I used to train all year long, regardless of the weather, and while the barn where the horses lived was heated, the arena was not.  Brr!

I know everyone's super into outdoor/barn summer weddings right now, but after doing a winter wedding, I'm so into winter weddings!  I've always loved shooting photos in the snow and snowy wedding photos are my new favorite thing!  My mom and dad had their wedding mid-December and it snowed on their wedding day and I still love those photos of them outside the log cabin chapel where they got married, with snow falling around them.  So magical!

favorite wedding images from 2014

Seattle, Tacoma, Anchorage, Indie Wedding Photographer

I fell fast and hard for wedding photography in 2014, and I cannot wait to shoot more weddings in 2015!  It kind of took me by surprise how much I actually like wedding photography, I remember in the beginning I was totally freaked out by the one chance to get the shots and the high stress of weddings.  Thankfully, all my weddings have been low key and so much fun.  It's almost like being a wedding crasher, minus the binge drinking and taking a bridesmaid home, and plus getting to create photos of memories that will last a lifetime.  I'd say I come out on top.  No, but it's seriously amazing to get to create gorgeous images for my brides and grooms, it's such a privilege to capture the excitement and the intimate little moments between just the two of them on such a special day.

This is a sampling of my favorite wedding images from the past year.  With every wedding and every shoot I feel like I grow as a photographer and I'm so excited to grow this year.   I've already had an amazing wedding so far this year and a styled bridal shoot with some gorgeous gals in stunning BHLDN dresses.  I can't wait to share the images from those shoots in the coming weeks!  For now, here's a look back at what 2014 looked like!

harrison + lindsay's mt. rainier copper creek inn forest wedding

Copper Creek Inn in Ashford, WA is definitely becoming a favorite venue of mine.  Besides being the spot Dan and I went on our honeymoon, I've now shot two weddings there and I love the casual, woody vibe the location has.  It's so perfect for a small, laid back, woodland wedding, which is exactly what Lindsay and Harrison had!  The location lends itself to a homemade, DIY wedding, which are my favorite.  I love all the little details Lindsay had, like the cranberry and bean decor, which is stunning but so simple and inexpensive!  Another awesome thing about weddings in the forest?  The forest is already gorgeous so you don't have to spend a ton on decorations!  Lindsay chose such rich colors for her decor and bouquets, which is such a great compliment to the fall colors of the forest.  The bridal party all wore grey, which was a great choice to really let those vibrant natural colors shine!

aaron + riki's chambers bay tacoma wedding

This past summer I had a booth at Art On The Ave, a super fun arts festival on Tacoma's 6th Ave every summer.  During the festival I did giveaways for some photo sessions and one super special giveaway for an entire wedding package.  Aaron and Riki were the winners and I'm so excited they ended up winning.  I got to shoot their engagement photos back in August and they ended up being some of my favorite photos ever.  I knew that their wedding was going to be super fun after meeting them at the engagement shoot.  I mean, they brought their dog and he was wearing a little shirt collar.  SO cute.

Their wedding was so laid back and lighthearted, it was a pleasure to be a part of their day.  Aaron's daughter gave an unexpected toast at the reception that had everyone in the room, including myself, with tears in their eyes.  So special, so meaningful.  The wedding was held at the Pierce County Environmental Services Building, which despite sounding unromantic, has an amazing view of the sound and we were able to zoom down to the waterfront in a golf cart to do some bride + groom portraits down on the beach.  We also got an incredible sunset that night that was mind blowing!  Nature FTW.

jackson + jessica's portland leach botanical garden wedding

portland leach botanical garden wedding, woodsy botanical wedding, portland wedding photographer

Back in September I had the honor of getting to photograph a lifelong family friend's wedding.  I've known the groom, Jackson, for two decades.  Our families became super close friends shortly after my family moved up to Anchorage when I was 6, and Jackson's dad was actually friends with my dad growing up in Juneau, so there's a lot of family history between our two clans.  Jackson started dating Jessica in high school, so they've been together for quite some time!  They both go to college in Seattle now, so when Jackson finally decided to propose he took Jessica to the swanky restaurant atop the Seattle Space Needle for a delicious date and then popped the question after dinner as they stood beneath the Space Needle.  After she said yes, they caught a bus to a secret surprise party he had planned where friends, family, and loved ones were waiting to congratulate them!

Jackson and Jessica didn't have a ton of money to splurge on a huge, opulent wedding, but you wouldn't have known it!  It was such an incredibly beautiful wedding, from the location, to the details.  Everything was so perfect.  When I walked into the venue for the rehearsal my jaw dropped and I did a little happy-photographer dance because I was SO excited to shoot photos in such a beautiful location.  Their venue was the Leach Botanical Garden just outside of Portland, which is a super affordable wedding venue.  Seriously, so many private wedding venues can charge enormous fees, but because Leach is run by the Portland Parks & Rec they have much more affordable rates.  So amazing.

They found their florist on Craigslist (amazing!), a gal named Shaon Harbeck, and she does flowers as a hobby so she doesn't have an actual shop.  The flowers were so stunning and Jessica says she did a phenomenal job staying within their small budget.  The center pieces were my favorite decorative pieces at the wedding.  Succulents, moss, and pretty flowers all tucked inside a log "vase".  I almost stole like ten of them to take home with me they were so understated, chic, and matched the location perfectly.

Jackson's Dad spent some time growing up in Hawai'i, so Jackson has lots of memories eating Hawaiian food and I distinctly remember many times dancing the Hukilau along with my brothers and Jackson and his sister while their dad played his ukulele and sang.  They had Barbs Catering do a mini Hawaiian meal for their food because of it's sentimental value in Jackson's side of the family, but it was even more special for Jessica because it was the first meal he ever cooked her!  To save money they chose not to serve a full meal so having some rice, teriyaki chicken skewers and pineapple were good options for those not wanting pie, which is what they chose for dessert in lieu of cake. All of the pie was contributed by family members that were known for specific flavors, and it was so cool that loved ones got to share a little sweet treat.

I asked Jessica to share her favorite moment from the day and she said,

"This one is really hard to choose! Besides actually putting the rings on our fingers, my favorite moment of the day was waiting to walk down the isle. Jackson and I had chosen not to see each other before the ceremony, and I don't regret it one bit. The feeling of knowing I would see him soon, was one I will never forget. Pure joy mixed with immense nervousness (the good kind) is the only way I can describe it! I wish I could relive that moment again!"

As their photographer I was with her in those moments and it was so special to share them with her. She was doing her best to breathe and calm the nerves and I started singing Miley Cyrus, "Party in the USA" to her because we'd listened to some Miley on the car ride over to the venue earlier that day.  "So I put my hands up, they're playing my song, the butterflies fly away..." seemed like the perfect little encouragement in the moment!

Jessica's wedding advice?

"The only thing I can really think of to say is, don't lose focus on what the day is really about. Some things aren't going to go your way, your Mom may put the favor table in the wrong corner, your florist may be late, and your lemonade might not have enough sugar. But at the end of the day you will be married to the love of your life, and everyone that is important to you will get to see you make that commitment. That's what weddings are about!"

I loved Jessica's laid back attitude, even when she was nervous or anxious.  Also, I dig a bride who, when asked if she'll take her shoes off and, in her wedding gown, hike barefoot out onto a tiny rock wall in the middle of a stream to get the shot, says, "heck yeah!"  So excited for Jackson and Jessica's new life together, and it's so great to have such a great gal as a part of our big framily!

bryan + rachel's downtown tacoma engagement

In just a couple days these two tie the knot!  I shot some couple portraits of them in 2012 and Bryan hired me to shoot the actual proposal in October! We met at Anthem in downtown Tacoma, which was perfect because their first date was at the Anthem in Puyallup and that's where Bryan proposed.  Keeping things in the Anthem family here.  I'm excited to go to the wedding on Saturday and see these two all gussied up!  My husband Dan is actually one of Bryan's groomsmen, so it'll be fun to see him standing up there during the ceremony.  Unfortunately (for me) these two are moving to Portland after the wedding.  We keep losing friends to Oregon!  But I'm excited for their next chapter in life!

Laura + Aaron's Copper Creek Inn Wedding

Last month I had the pleasure of photographing Laura and Aaron's beautifully rustic wedding out near Mount Rainier at Copper Creek Inn.  I was especially excited to shoot this particular wedding because just a couple years ago my husband and I honeymooned at this very location!  It was fun to be able to go back and be a part of a lovely wedding.

The wedding was full of DIY touches, and I think one of my favorite moments was walking up to the reception area to shoot details and all the women in the family were busy icing the cakes and making the bouquets!  DIY weddings are my absolute favorite.  It's so fun getting to have the whole family involved in such a special day.

It was such an intimate ceremony and thankfully the rain, which was supposed to be pouring all day, held off for all the important moments, only showing up during the reception when we all were able to be under the cover of tents.  Another favorite detail of mine was the pizza truck!  Pizza is one of my favorite foods and the wood fire pizza was coming out all evening!  Such an awesome option for catering!  Oh, and obviously all weddings should include a bonfire.  The kids had a blast poking sticks in the fire and writing on rocks with the charcoal.

Thank you Laura and Aaron for letting me capture this special day!

molly + daniel's mv skansonia seattle wedding

Molly is one of my good friends from college, so it was wonderful to be able to take part in her wedding in such a special way.  Molly was actually one of my bridesmaids in my wedding!  I met Daniel at her Christmas party, and the next thing I new the two were a pair!  Despite living only a few minute south of Seattle, I didn't make it up to Seattle to get to know Daniel better until I shot their engagement photos and was thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know him better.  We walked around the Ballard Farmer's Market, got coffee, and finished the day with some fish and chips down by the Locks.  And only a few short months later...this beautiful day!

When Molly told me about the venue I fell in love.  A vintage ferry renovated into a wedding venue?  It's perfect!  And even though they are moving to the other side of the world, they'll always have the memory of the city where they met and fell in love, and getting married with the Space Needle in the background.

It was really cool to get to see Daniel interact with his family.  They're so vibrant and tight knit, and man do those people know how to dance!  And there was much dancing. Almost all the guests were on the dance floor at one point, doing a line dance led by Daniel's brother.  So much fun, and a blast to photograph!  Thanks, Daniel and Molly, for letting me be a part of your special day!  And a big thanks to JTobiason Photography for being my second shooter.  Check out his images from the day here!

molly + daniel's ballard farmer's market engagement

Last weekend I took a jaunt up to Ballard to hang out with Molly & Daniel for their engagement shoot! I've been friends with Molly since college so it was such a pleasure to be able to shoot her engagement photos!  I'm shooting their wedding in May and I can't wait!  They're getting married on a vintage Seattle ferry boat.  How awesome is that?!  We spent the afternoon hanging out around Ballard, visiting the Ballard Farmers Market, getting coffee, watching the boats go through the locks, and getting fish and chips!  It was a super fun laid back shoot, just like Molly & Daniel.
