When I first moved to Washington in 2011 I spent most of my free time at an awesome coffee shop two blocks from my house. I ended up applying to work at that coffee shop shortly after my arrival to town and Ben, the owner, hired me! Four years later, the coffee shop is no longer there and my days as a barista are behind me, but I still consider Ben to be a great friend and I was so honored when he asked me to shoot his wedding!
Ben and Jenaya are the most awesome of humans, and I knew their wedding would be rad, but when the told me that their inspiration was creepy rustic Harry Potter with lots of skulls, velvet, tweed, wool, faux fur, branches, bats, and tons of candles... I kind of exploded with excitement. They pulled their wedding together in six weeks, which blew my own 2.5 month engagement out of the water!
Their wedding was so cozy, casual, intimate, and an absolute blast. The wedding was at a mountainside lodge overlooking a gorgeous lake, they greeted every guest with a glass of champagne, ate our fill of homemade chili and pie after the ceremony, and we all danced the night away on the porch to live funk music. Everything was so perfectly unconventional, from Ben proposing with a kitten instead of a ring, Jenaya's dark velvet gown, walking down the aisle with her kitten instead of a bouquet, to the wedding party of the most adorable children (and the boys' coonskin caps!).
